Journey Campus Cafe
The Goal
To design and install a fully operational café within a multi-tenanted complex, including a back of house kitchen and dedicated dishwash area.
The Brief
To ensure the café aligns with the building’s overarching interior design language, creating a Scandinavian inspired front of house environment defined by simple, layered textures and natural materials. The space needed to feel inviting and adaptable, operating seamlessly from day to night and accommodating a wide range of customers from both the public and building tenants.
- Location – Cambridge, Cambridgeshire
- Sector – Business & Industry
- Suppliers – Square One, Corsair, Catertherm, Cossiga, Die Pat, EAIS, Lincat, Mechline, Rational, Uropa, Welbuilt, Williams
The Outcome
The result is Flask, a warm and welcoming café where customers can relax, socialise, or work comfortably over coffee or a light lunch. Through close collaboration with the architects and building contractors, we developed a calming, minimalist aesthetic using modern, understated materials inspired by Scandinavian design principles. Behind the scenes, the back-of-house area features a well-equipped cook suite, prep zone, food storage, and a dedicated dishwash space, ensuring efficient daily operations and seamless service.
For us, a standout design feature of Flask is the carefully curated palette. Refined through multiple iterations in collaboration with the architect, the final colours complement the additional furniture and biophilic touches, creating a cohesive, inviting environment that can be enjoyed by both staff and customers.
